Pepper

Okay so this is about Pepper. She was my rat and she was the best rat in the whole world. She had white and gray fur like storm clouds and these really smart eyes. She could climb anything. One time she ran up my arm and got in my hoodie and just stayed there like a pocket potato. My mom said rats are gross but Pepper wasn’t. She cleaned her face like a cat and used a litter corner in her cage! She was a genius, I swear. I taught her tricks too. Like, she could spin around for treats and come when I called. She even knew how to run through this paper tube maze I made. She was small but had BIG energy. Always busy. Always sniffing stuff. One morning, I went to feed her and she didn’t come out. I thought she was just asleep, but she wasn’t. She was just gone. I cried a lot. I didn’t think I would but I really did. Now her cage is empty. I put a flower and a photo of her inside it. I miss you, Pepper. You were tiny but so awesome. I’ll never forget you.
