Max

Max was my best dog ever. He was big and ugly and he barked really loud but only when he wanted to play. He would never bite. He was so nice. I called him Maxie sometimes and he knew it was still his name. He loved fetch. He was not good at giving the ball back, though. He would grab it and run away and make me chase him and I would get tired and laugh and fall down and he would come back and lick my face. That was my favourite game. Max liked peanut butter so much. One time he got peanut butter on his nose and he couldn’t lick it off and he sneezed and it flew on the couch and Mom was mad but it was so funny. He also liked cheese and the crusts from my sandwiches. At bedtime he always laid next to my bed and he would groan when I moved around too much. Sometimes he snored. I liked that sound. When he died, I cried a lot. I didn't want to go to school. Dad said it was okay to be sad. We buried him under the big tree and I put his squeaky bone with him. I miss Max so much. I look at the tree and say hi to him sometimes. I hope he is in doggy heaven with peanut butter and balls that squeak and no baths. He was the best friend ever. I love you, Maxie.
